"Life is in three parts: sometimes fun, sometimes normal, and sometimes stormy. How are we teaching children resilience when they encounter the storms?" - Dick Moore
We are so excited to be hosting the incredible and inspirational Dick Moore for a talk on Friday 2 September at 3pm to kick off our series of talks on Emotional Wellbeing in children. Something we are incredibly passionate about.
Dick is an amazing individual. The father of four often errant boys, an English teacher, rugby coach and a headmaster for almost 23 years - he has seen a lot and taught boys and girls in both junior and senior schools.
In September 2011 Dicks life changed direction rapidly after the suicide of his third son, Barney, aged just 21. He set off on a journey for knowledge and understanding of emotional wellbeing and mental health. He now tours the country talking to parents, teachers, pupils and anyone else who is prepared to listen (we're the first childcare agency!) - check out the full list of where he's been here.
Whilst he has strong views on how we should be dealing with the epidemic of adolescent mental health issues, he is not a doctor, counsellor, psychiatrist or psychologist. His approach is based on many years of experience with young people as a headmaster, father and friend.
Dick has also appeared on BBC Radio 4, as well as on Breakfast TV and is a huge influencer within the sector that is emotional wellbeing and resilience of children.
We cannot wait to welcome Dick to Bristol for a two hour talk at 3pm on Friday 2 September. Tickets are limited and are going quickly so to avoid disappointment please purchase your ticket here. For members (current clients and Kayas) tickets are free (you have been sent a discount code to use) and for non-members they are £12. Friends, partners and children over the age of 12 are welcome! You can purchase your tickets here.
Dick is an amazing speaker and it is set to be a fantastic, eye opening and inspiring event. One quote from his website; "Dick Moore has breathed life into a dialogue between me and my son". Click here to see the full list.
We are also really excited and thankful to Clifton College who have jumped on board and are hosting the event for us. The talk will be held in The Preparatory School Hall, marked as number 48 on the map here. Parking is available on the surrounding streets but pay and display is in use, therefore please do remember to bring some change.
Finally, if you have a spare 15 minutes, then we would strongly recommend watching his amazing TedX Talk below; "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain."
