Meet Maddie…

I completed the Freckles Nanny Training course in October 2021 (and LOVED IT!). I then went on to work as a Ski Nanny from February 2022 - May 2022 with ABSki Childcare (who are based in Tignes and Val d’Isere) and had the BEST 3 months!

It was scary to pack my bags and fly to a different country not knowing anyone but I made incredible friends, worked with so many amazing children and have come home filled with more confidence and self-belief than I ever thought was possible!

ps. I’m now working as a nanny part time alongside studying to be a paediatric nurse - which is SO exciting but if I wasn’t I’d definitely go and do another Ski Nanny Season!!

Accommodation, Location and Travel

Accommodation

The course is delivered in a large private family home, which is perfectly set up for large groups. It has a beautiful and spacious kitchen, where the cooking course and smaller sessions take place and a large sitting room with wood burning stove where the Children’s Emotional Health course is delivered.

The rooms are shared with 2-3 people per room. Fluffy towels and bathroom essentials are provided. The property has ample bathrooms and a large lawn garden for relaxing on.

We specifically run the course in a family home setting to simulate the environment, equipment and set up that you’ll experience when working as a nanny.

Being a fully residential course it doesn’t matter where home is for you, and we have students who travel from all over to train with us.

Location

The property is situated in a peaceful village 10 minutes from Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Travel

There is plenty of off-road parking available if driving to the course. For those joining us via train, the closest station is Salisbury. Team Freckles organise a taxi for those returning to the station on the final day.

FAQs

some of our most commonly asked questions

+ If I do the course will you guarantee me a Ski Nanny job?

Unfortunately we can’t guarantee that you’ll get a Ski Nanny job after completing the course, however our relationships with our partner agencies are very strong as we can provide you with a full reference and they thoroughly endorse the course. Our students who have grabbed the opprotunity have succeeded in getting a Ski Nanny job offer.

+ What's the situation with visas?

The visa system for UK nationals entering and working in the EU is still being established and that in liklihood you will have to get a visa if you don't have an EU passport. With Canada the visa process is relatively straightforward and can take about 3 months. Each partner agency is able to advise specifically on their location requirements and will be able to help you with the process.

+ How much will I earn as a Ski Nanny?

Unlike those who work as chalet host as a Ski Nanny you will be paid a full and competitive wage. In France this can range from €10 - €25 per hour.

+ How much time will I get to ski?

Most ski nanny agencies enable you to work some weeks as full time and some as part time, allowing you lots of time to ski.

+ What's the situation with accommodation when working as a Ski Nanny?

You will need to find some accommodation, however most agencies will be able to help you with this. Most commonly you will be in a big house / hotel with lots of other seasonnaires. It's a great way to build a large group of friends and to have a brilliant time.

+ Is the course certified?

The course is fully certified and accredited with CPD (the continual professional development body) under the title 'Junior Nanny Course' see here >>. It is graded between pass and distinction plus. The 12hr paediatric first aid element and common core skills course are standalone qualifications in their own right.

+ I’ve got a level 2 / 3 in childcare and / or I’ve been working in a nursery. Is the course still suitable for me?

Yes. Absolutely. The course is designed to be super practical and hands on and covers the essentials of being a nanny. Nannying is very different to a nursery setting and the course compliments everything you’ll have already learnt through a childcare course / degree.

+ What job opportunities are available after I've done the course and hopefully a Ski Nanny Season?

So many! You can join us as a Festival / Wedding or Event nanny when you have availability and we work with a large number of partner agencies to offer traditional nannying opportunities (temporary and permanent) both in the UK and internationally.

+ Do I have to stay onsite with the course?

The course is residential as it’s very intense with long days of learning. We are incredibly welcoming, course sizes are small and the property is lovely - there aren’t any bunk beds!

+ Can I book and come with a friend?

Yes, of course. It’s just subject to availability on each course. We recommend booking onto your chosen course as soon as you’ve decided as spaces are limited.

+ I’ve noticed that payment plans are available. Do I need to have completed the whole payment plan before I can go on the course?

No! You can attend your course whilst your payment plan is ongoing. For example if you book onto a course in 2 months time and have a 5 month payment plan. You’ll attend the course having paid 2 instalments and the remaining 3 instalments will be paid after you’ve completed it.

+ I already have an Enhanced DBS on the update service / in date paediatric first aid certificate / common core skills certificate. Do I have to pay for these again?

No, of course not. Simply send copies of your certificates over to us when you want to book and we’ll organise a special purchase option for you with the correct costs removed.

+ What if I’m unwell before / during the course?

If you are unwell before the course, keep in touch with us and we will do our best to accommodate it and come up with a plan. If you're unwell whilst on a course then the onsite team will help you and will get you back for another course / organise extra sessions if you miss any training.

+ How old do I have to be to come on the course?

The minimum age for coming on the course is 16 at the time of attending. The minimum age to work with us and our partner agencies is 18 but we support you with getting work independently before then.
