Lesson 10 | Your Money & Your Worth
Last March we (that's me and Ryan, not me and Dodo 🐶) bought a little cottage. It cost me all of my savings, a mortgage that feels like it will last for eternity and the total faith that I'm going to wake up for the rest of my life liking Ryan 🤣
All jokes aside, it's Week 10 of the #MakeYourBedChallenge and we're diving into MONEY 💰
For most of us, talking about money is not the done thing. Chances are growing up we've been told:
👉 to avoid raising it in conversations at dinner parties
👉 that's it's a vulgar topic
👉 that we shouldn't worry ourselves about it
👉 that there isn't enough of it
👉 to look after it (yet not taught how 🙉)
👉 that it's a private matter
plus so many other things...
When was the last time someone asked you how much you got paid? Or you congratulated your friend on their new role and asked them what the salary was? Or instead of asking someone how much their new house was you looked it up on Rightmove and found out that way?
We shy away from talking about money, asking about money and quite frankly doing anything about money AND YET money is essential to the buying and selling of goods and services. It is critical to life and we seriously need to get over the 'embarrassment' or 'shame' of talking about it. Get to grips with it, understand it and make it work for us. And as a female you need to be confident in it so that we start closing the gender pay gap 👊

Challenge 1: Get to Grips with Budgeting
I want you go through your bank statement for the last month and look at what you spent your money on. Group like expenses together and simply see what was spent where.
I also want you to think about what expenses you may have to start covering int he coming weeks and months, put a monetary value on them and figure out how you will cover them.
Use the budget tracker opposite for keeping tabs on what's going in and out of your account. It's really powerful and can make you stop and think about where your money is going.

Challenge 2: Your Money Mantra
If you (like me) have a negative mindset towards money then you need to deal with it, and deal with pretty damn sharpish!
I've been working on my money mindset on and off for years and when I focus on improving it, it makes a huge difference to my financial situation. This links back to I AM Statements (from lesson 2) and changing the narrative in our brain. Our mind is the most powerful muscle we have and we need it to be on board.
Check out the money mantras opposite and choose one that resonates with you and write it down 5 times a day. If none of them are quite right for you then make your own.

Challenge 3: Pick A Goal
I want you to pick a financial goal that you want to aim for:
tickets to a festival
a new handbag
flights to Paris etc.
Do the maths to work out how much it will cost and then make a plan for how you'll get that money together.
spend less on coffee
sell your old clothes
cut the neighbours grass
ask for a pay rise
This is your life Jo, go and take control of it.
